Doctors to Germans : “Think of yourself as a penguin and you’ll be alright.”
With icy conditions expected shortly in Germany, trauma surgeons are telling residents how best to avoid slipping on icy pavements: walk like penguins.
The technique involves leaning the torso forward so that the center of gravity is on the front leg, according to an advisory published on the website of the German Society of Orthopaedics and Trauma Surgery.
The keys to the penguin walk are simple: Extend your arms (er, wings) out to your side, bend your knees, and shuffle side to side as you move forward (rather than taking big steps).
Basically, waddle.
Not sure how you walk?
There’s an app that identifies your walking style as either flamingo, duck or penguin.
It then displays exercises tailored to improve your result.
I feel better already.
